Master of Arts in Hispanic Theology and Ministry
The Master of Arts in Hispanic Theology and Ministry degree is designed to form ministers for religious leadership in the U.S. Catholic Church, with its majority Latino/a population, providing foundational instruction in Hispanic religious heritage, Latino/a biblical hermeneutics, and Latino/a theologies. The program provides supervised experiences in Latino/a ministry or, for students already engaged in Hispanic ministry, opportunities to critically reflect on their pastoral skills.
This is one of five new degree options for students who are interested in preparing for ministry in specialized fields. Of the required 36 credit-hours of study, at least 24 hours must be completed in residence (traditional classroom setting) with an option to complete the other 12 hours in either online or blended courses, as available. In addition to the necessary coursework, all students are required to participate in the appropriate spiritual formation program offered at CTU.
Educational goals and outcomes for students:
- The capacity to recognize the complexity of the US Hispanic experience of the church
- Initial integration of theologies arising from US Latino/a contexts with pastoral experiences
- The ability to engage in theological reflection as teología y pastoral en conjunto
- The capacity to respond pastorally in particular Latino/a cultural/religious contexts

Foundations: Religious Experience in Context (2 credits)
Foundations: Theology and Practice of Ministry (2 credits)
Foundations: Understanding Christian Tradition (2 credits)
Methods and Sources in Latino/a Theology and Ministry (3 credits)
Introduction to Old Testament (2 credits)
Introduction to New Testament (2 credits)
Integrating Seminar (2 credits)
Additional Required Courses
Courses with specific Latino/a focus (at least 12 credits)
General electives focused on culture, ethics, or pastoral ministry (at least 6 credits)
Pastoral internship or immersion (3 credits)
Total: 36 credit-hours
Participation in appropriate spiritual formation program
