Remembering Schillebeeckx: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Edward Schillebeeckx, O.P.
Edward Schillebeeckx, a Belgian-born Dominican who has been considered one of the great theologians of the twentieth century, died in December in the Netherlands, where he had lived and taught for fifty years. He was a major influence at the Second Vatican Council and in the post-Conciliar development in the Catholic Church.
Three members of the faculty of Catholic Theological Union who had close working relationships with him over a period of more than three decades will present reflections on his continuing significance for theology and the work of the Church today.
The symposium will take place Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 4 p.m. in room 210B/C of the Academic and Conference Center at 5416 South Cornell Avenue, Chicago, and will include the following presentations:
-The Relevance of Schillebeeckx’s Theology for the 21st Century, presented by Robert Schreiter, C.PP.S.
-Schillebeeckx and Third Cinema: Causing the Signs of the Times to Speak, presented by Antonio Sison, C.PP.S.
-Schillebeeckx and Interreligious Dialogue: An Asian Perspective, presented by Edmund Chia
